The European Green Deal has important goals: by 2050, it wants to reduce CO2 emissions from transport by 90%. Clearly, rail transport will benefit , both for goods and people. A fact confirms this: the European Commission plans to triple high-speed rail traffic by the same date, with the aim of achieving a single trans-European, integrated and multimodal rail network involving land, sea and air transport.
This is the scenario in which Movinter , a Savona-based company that has been active for thirty years in the production of components for rolling stock, takes its lead. Thanks to its partnership with Eurotherm in the design and construction of an internal painting department , it has obtained qualitative recognition of its coating cycles from the most important players in the railway sector.
Movinter painting department
Movinter produces light and heavy carpentry, piping and plant engineering; 95% of its production is destined for the railway sector. The company works without a standard catalogue, but exclusively on customer drawings.
Let’s start with the technical data of the custom system designed by Eurotherm, which includes the following elements:
- a shot blasting cabin that allows the use of stainless steel shot and corundum shot based on the required roughness;
- two liquid painting booths side by side with paint plant supplied by Wagner;
- a drying oven at 80°C;
- an overhead conveyor ;
- two semi-automatic transfer machines for small-sized pieces (which account for 80% of the company’s production);
- a lifting station for the bulkier ones.
The new paint shop project was launched in April 2023, and saw Eurotherm deploy its know-how to contribute to the implementation of a long-term internalisation plan .
The reason for this choice? Mainly the problems related to the transportation, over long distances, of the company’s production, for which the risks of possible damages related to the handling are multiplied due to the very high number of formats of the pieces produced, which also made the work on the packaging extremely complicated.
The Eurotherm plant, 7 months after start-up
Davis Gioielli, current Painting Manager of Movinter (and already an expert in painting in the automotive and railway sectors), tested the painting line when it was put into operation, already knowing the strong points of the Eurotherm systems, and (these are his words, reported in issue 90 of International PAINTING&COATING magazine), “thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the team of the Turin company, known in the railway sector because it is responsible for supplying numerous systems in the sector, today we have a line at our disposal that is perfectly suited to our needs for maximum versatility and potentially expandable with a new project already in the planning phase .”
Not only that. We are in fact proud of the words spent by Davide Gioielli on the timeliness of our technical operators, who “ intervene remotely at any time to resolve any type of problem that may arise ”.
Seven months after its inauguration, the Movinter painting department is fully operational, and has allowed the company to receive quality recognition from giants such as Alstom Ferroviaria and, in the process of being defined, from Hitachi Rail Italy .
