Powder coating of metal components and cast iron structures: a plant for large materials

The goal of the project was to increase production capacity and raise the quality of coatings by integrating next-generation pretreatment and handling technologies. The design paid particular attention to operational flexibility, process sustainability, and scalability of the plant so as to support future developments envisioned by the company’s growth strategy.

The new Eurotherm manual powder coating plant, equipped with a state-of-the-art single-stage pretreatment system, ensures maximum operational efficiency and a sustainable, high-performance production cycle.

The single-stage pretreatment takes place within an automatic Ecojet cell equipped with a spray system designed for the application of Chemtec’s TORAN 3®, a state-of-the-art, single-phase product with low environmental impact that breaks down, engulfs and neutralizes oils present on part surfaces. The process, under the banner of maximum sustainability, does not require the use of water and does not lead to the generation of effluent.

Designed for operational flexibilitỳ and high performance, it enables the painting and handling of strong and particularly heavy structures by means of the automatic transferor.

The powder coating booth accommodates large parts and handles small batches and different color changes. The plant’s high flexibility allows paint cycles to be adapted to the specific protection and finishing requirements of the end customer.

A static oven is integrated into the plant, which is used both for drying after pretreatment and for curing the paint.

This investment was essential to replace an outdated facility that lacked automatic washing and relied on manual cleaning of parts.

In addition to filling an important technological gap, the main objective was to improve the qualitỳ of finishing, especially for larger products than those processed by automatic lines. The article highlights the innovative features of the plant, the TORAN 3® single-stage pre-treatment system, and the results obtained in terms of energy efficiency, production flexibility and finish quality, confirming the strategic role of this solution for the industrial coating of large parts.
