Mobile containerized powder coating system: the transportable “plug and play” solution

Eurotherm has designed and built a one-of-a-kind mini powder coating system integrated inside a 40-foot (12.2 m) shipping container. A solution designed for those who need maximum flexibility, mobility and operational speed without compromising on professional quality.

The challenge: transportability and operational autonomy

The company that approached Eurotherm had a clear and specific requirement: to have a complete coating system that was always ready for use, wherever it was needed. The absolute priority was transportability.

Traditionally, a coating system requires dedicated spaces, construction work and fixed installations. The challenge for our technical team was to miniaturize and engineer all the necessary components (spray booth, oven and handling system) within a standardized, mobile space, while ensuring maximum extraction and curing performance.

The Eurotherm Solution: a concentration of technology in 40 ft

To meet this requirement, we developed a customized mini powder coating system, fully installed inside a 40-foot (12.2 m) shipping container.

This configuration makes full use of the available internal space to create a linear and efficient workflow, ideal for processing small- and medium-sized parts.

Technical features of the system

  • Powder extraction wall: equipped with a small front enclosure to optimize powder recovery and extraction, complete with a HEPA filter to ensure maximum air cleanliness and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Large curing oven: designed to make full use of the container’s internal space down to the last millimeter. Heating is provided by a high-efficiency electric heating system, eliminating the need for gas burners and simplifying fuel logistics.
  • Handling system: the system includes an overhead monorail for easy suspension and transport of parts from the application area to the curing oven.
  • Load capacity: the system is optimized for 1.5 m long load bars, with a maximum load capacity of 150 kg.

Mobility, Speed and Functionality

The concept behind this solution is built around three key pillars: mobility, fast commissioning and maximum functionality.

Thanks to the containerized structure, the system can be easily moved from one job site to another or relocated between different production facilities. It is not just a machine, but a fully self-contained, plug-and-play coating department.

Quick Installation and Reduced Energy Consumption

One of the key advantages of this mini coating system is its simple setup. Only the following connections are required for immediate operation:

  1. Two three-phase electrical connections: for a total power requirement of just 20 kW, including both ventilation and the oven heating system.
  2. One compressed air connection: essential for the automatic cleaning system of the booth filter cartridges, ensuring minimal maintenance and consistent performance.

Why Choose a Containerized Coating System

This project demonstrates how custom-engineered coating systems can overcome the logistical constraints typically associated with traditional installations, while maintaining high standards of finish quality, operational continuity and safety.

A containerized coating system is an effective solution for:

  • 01

    Production distributed across multiple sites, where process continuity must be ensured without building fixed infrastructure.

  • 02

    Facilities with space constraints or complex production layouts, where a traditional coating system would be difficult to integrate.

  • 03

    Temporary applications or industrial job sites, where fast installation and dismantling are essential.

  • 04

    Companies requiring a turnkey solution, with reduced commissioning times and pre-validated process parameters.

The integration of the booth, oven and handling system within a standardized container makes it possible to create a fully self-contained coating department that is easy to transport and quick to put into operation, without requiring invasive structural modifications to the production site.

From an operational perspective, the system is designed to ensure stable process parameters even under varying operating conditions, with particular attention to:

  • airflow management inside the booth;
  • thermal uniformity within the oven;
  • powder recovery efficiency;
  • reduced maintenance requirements.

These aspects are essential for maintaining consistent finish quality and minimizing system downtime over time.
