Cosmetic packaging treatment and finishing: metallization technology at the heart of new glass bottle coating line

Eurotherm supports the strategic evolution of Decorluxe Group, a leader in the luxury segment of cosmetic packaging, by overseeing the installation of a state-of-the-art coating line for the aesthetic and functional finishing of glass containers

Impact

A complete, customized coating line for perfume bottles

Obtaining high-quality reflective surfaces with guaranteed performance and high aesthetic impact is the goal of the new line for painting and finishing plastic and glass containers, designed and installed by Eurotherm at the VMC Mottini production site in Chiuduno (BG). The investment in the new plant, strongly desired by Decorluxe management, responds to the strategic need to expand the production capacity of the Italian subsidiary through latest-generation technologies and more sustainable industrial processes.

The new custom-designed plant integrates three pressurized paint booths with water-mist filtration that allow multiple colors and effects to be handled on the same line, limiting part loading/unloading operations on the automatic inverted conveyor belt.

The filtration system operates with progressive passages, in which air passes through water cones and droplet separators before being expelled by finisher filters mounted on the roof of the cabin. An electric pump ensures the closed water circuit, limiting resource consumption. Water curtain spray booths are also equipped with panel filters to abate the solid part of the overspray, further containing pollutant emissions. A flow meter monitors the saturation status of the filters and alerts if they need to be replaced.

The plant also introduces infrared (IR) drying and UV curing systems for curing paints.

Metallic effect and gleaming chrome: excellent technologies for high-end finishes

A characterizing element of the project for VMC Mottini was the co-design of the system, aimed at translating the production needs of the client company into concrete solutions. For the realities of the Cosmetics&Pharma supply chain, it is in fact absolutely essential to equip themselves with scalable and flexible systems, able to respond promptly to the changing needs of a sector squeezed between the aesthetic expectations of consumers and the performance requirements of surfaces suitable for contact with food and products for human use.

The plant designed by Eurotherm responds to the specific need to replace off-line metallization technology (PVD sputtering in plasma) with the new Jet Metal water-based metallization technology applied by spray. Metallization, equipped with automatic tracking guns and applied directly on the line, works as an alternative to traditional vacuum processes, presenting itself as the best choice given the goal of achieving high levels of coverage and sophisticated aesthetic effects in a single process step.

Plus

The new system installed by Eurotherm resulted in a 30 percent increase in productivity per batch for the same project. A result that confirms the validity of the investment and the success of the collaboration with Eurotherm – a partner chosen for its wide portfolio of achievements, international brand presence and present and timely service.
